We are certainly in challenging times and I wish you the best in this difficult situation. Just yesterday we passed the date when the City had initially hoped to reopen the fields for play. Obviously we are not close to being able to return to normal activities yet. For that reason I urge you to try and follow the orders of State and local health authorities. In regard to resuming softball at Bonita Valley, USA Softball leadership has strongly encouraged leagues in Southern California to try and hold a shortened recreational season in May and not cancel the season entirely just yet.

We would also like to see the girls have the chance to get back out on the fields with their friends and conclude the season. Right now it is not looking very hopeful for this plan to take place in May, but we have not given up hope yet. The executive board has discussed the possibility of having to cancel the rest of the season and issuing partial refunds.

So that option is on the table. However, we will not be able to issue full refunds since most teams got in 6 games and that created operating costs for the league. We still have to pay for field lights, umpires, uniforms and hundreds of registrations through USA softball. We do want you to get your moneys worth and we take the responsibility of managing your registration fees very seriously.

We also know that some families are struggling financially and could use some extra funds if the season is cancelled. Rest assured that the BV board of directors will continue to monitor the situation with USA softball to make a decision as soon as possible. Our board works very hard to make the league a great experience for young ladies and their families and we will continue to do so.

I want to personally thank our Board of Directors for all their efforts and urge them to continue to do what they can for the league at this difficult time. Also keep in mind that closing day is when we normally hold elections for next seasons board of directors. If you are interested in serving I would recommend that you start looking over the rules and bylaws on our website and think about serving in a job that you are interested in.

Regarding pictures, we will distribute the photos one way or another and the board will be working out the details, but much depends on what happens in the coming weeks.I know that all of us are very aware of the current limitations on gatherings, as well as the governmental closure of schools until May 1.

As you may guess, the league would not be permitted to begin practices or games prior to that time due to the number of people who would be gathered at one time. For reference, Little League International has informed our baseball friends that all activities are suspended until May 11 for them.

Little League Softball® Divisions

As for now, our league will continue to align with BCSC and not allow any practices before May 1 as a starting point. Our board will be having discussions between now and that time regarding our options for spring season--including a shorter, more condensed season like our older girls currently play, or the potential that we may not be able to hold a spring season at all.

This is certainly not our wish, and we will continue to work with local leadership, as well as pay attention to state and national mandates, with a stated goal of having a spring season when the "all clear" comes.

As this situation progresses and that timeline becomes more clear, we will continue to communicate our plans to our families in an appropriate timeframe. Our league will not issue excessive numbers of statements, as that only presents an indecisive and unclear picture.

We will, however, make sure our families are presented with informative updates as our situation normalizes. Once we have a clear timeline of when we can get started, we will review our options, make decisions on the upcoming season, and present that plan. To that end, we will not be accommodating refunds at this time. BGSL families--we understand that these are unprecedented times and there is uncertainty as to when we can return to normal life.

However, in the event that we can get started in May and still hold a season, we need to be able to form teams and make a schedule. We still need girls in all three older divisions in order to hold a season. We are asking that all girls who wish to play in these older divisions sign up now! Don't delay--this will help us in planning. We will need managers in these divisions. Even if you have managed in the past, we require an updated application for each season.
